I just came back from working with disaster victims in Mississippi. It was just like in so many other places I've worked: Louisiana, Florida, Iowa, Pennsylvania, but somehow magnified. People there have been teetering on the edge of poverty so deep that it threatens to engulf them. And this last disaster has done just that to some, swallowed them right up. Despite whatever government assistance they may be eligible for, they will disappear, and most likely die, as a direct or indirect result of this event.
